2015 NORTH SHORE PREP TWINS SEASON OUTLOOK

2015 SEASON OUTLOOK

The North Shore Twins welcomes its 14U / Prep team back for 2015. Four returning players, Thomas Curalli, Cameron Jackson, Carson McIntosh and Marco Misceo, will be relied upon to provide strong leadership and guidance for their teammates on a daily basis.

This year’s team will once again be led by a talented and deep pitching staff.  Two strong southpaws will patrol the hill this year, as Mack Rumsby, a rookie to the Twins organization, joins Jackson. These two provide a number of roster options as they can play throughout the outfield, as well as provide solid defense at first base. Seven right-handed pitchers will take the mound for the Twins, including the returner Misceo. He is joined by Dylan Woodward and Declan Dutton, who will also patrol the outfield for the team. Fellow right-handers Jayden Clayton, Adam Maier and Cole Roberts will be looked upon to provide many innings on the mound as well as in the infield. Ryan Adomoski will be a busy man all season, seeing time on the mound, at the corner infield spots and behind the plate.

Adomoski's fellow newcomers Parker Harris and Alex Ferreira will also suit up behind the plate and work with the pitching staff. The rest of Harris's time will be spend in the middle infield, while Ferreira will primarily play outfield when he’s not catching. This trio will do well to emulate the returner, McIntosh, who brings experience and a wealth of knowledge to the position. While not calling the game, McIntosh projects as a middle infielder for the club.

The middle infield consists of a deep and talented group of players who will fight for playing time all season.  McIntosh will battle for innings with, Harris, Clayton, and Maier, while Dutton, Curalli and Woodward will provide additional depth to keep everyone fresh as the season progresses.  Rumsby, Jackson, Adomoski, Misceo, Cole Roberts and Malcolm Roberts are available to man first base, while the latter four, all righties, can move across the diamond to take on the challenge of third base too. Maier and Clayton are ready to showcase their versatility at the hot corner, when needed, as well.

Led by returning centerfielder Curalli, the outfield contingent are set to cover lots of ground as they track down fly balls for their pitching staff. Dutton, Ferreira, Rumsby, Jackson, Woodward and Clayton figure to see the bulk of the innings out in the outfield, but everyone on the roster is ready to fill in when called upon.

Offensively the Twins expect to rely on a consistent attack and timely hitting throughout the batting order. Misceo, Adomoski and Maier will be leaned upon to anchor the middle of the order and provide some thump. Curalli, Dutton, McIntosh, Jackson and Rumsby will do their best to set the table for the middle of the order, while Cole Roberts and Malcolm Roberts are excited at the ample RBI opportunities that bode well for their gap-to-gap power. Clayton, Woodward, Ferreira and Harris provide length to the lineup and possess an element of team speed that is crucial for run production.

Head Coach Josh Hundal returns for his second season at the helm of the 14U program, joined once again by Pitching Coach Cameron Foster.  Bench Coach Ryan Raguero came onboard halfway through last season and is back for his first full season with the organization, working with the hitters primarily.  After years of college and professional baseball throughout North America and overseas, Jordan Thomson joins the staff with his focus being on pitching and the mental aspects of the game.  He looks forward to working with the players on understanding the intricacies of the sport and how best to be prepared for the future.  Danielle Abdilla comes onboard to work with the infielders after a stellar collegiate career at the University of Western Ontario, where she was a Canadian All-Star.  Daniel Curalli returns to the Twins organization as a coach to work with the catchers and baserunners on fine-tuning the crucial details of the sport.

About the North Shore Prep Twins

North Shore Twins has been the top program for elite 16- to 18-year-old baseball players on Vancouver's North Shore since 1990. In more recent years the program has expanded to include teams for younger players as well: North Shore Junior Twins and North Shore Prep Twins. The three teams now comprise the North Shore Twins Baseball Club, which is operated by coaches with professional and/or college baseball credentials and dedicated volunteers. The club is based at Parkgate Park in North Vancouver, BC.

The Twins program strives to produce not only top quality baseball players, but also respectful and respected individuals by instilling the principles of sportsmanship, teamwork, honesty, and work ethic. It aims to provide the environment, guidance and skills—physical, mental and emotional included—that will allow its committed baseball players to reach for their dreams. In addition, it places a high priority on academics and emphasizes that school performance is a critical component in each player’s development.

The North Shore Prep Twins was established as an elite developmental program to provide dedicated 13- and 14-year-old baseball players, especially those with ambitious goals, an opportunity to compete at the highest possible level. The bulk of the Prep Twins' roster is comprised of North Shore players, with many from across the Lower Mainland choosing to join the program. The Preps play a robust schedule of head-to-head games and tournaments, mainly around southwest BC and northwest Washington, each season.

Since its inception the North Shore Twins Baseball Club has been highly successful in helping its players meet their baseball-related goals. Under a series of Head Coaches including Buff Schemmer, Dave Empey, Canadian-Hall-of-Famer John Haar (he heads up the North Shore Twins Baseball Club and has returned to the Head Coach position after a period with the Prep Twins), Jordan Wilson, Larson Bauck, many of its graduates have been able to play baseball while pursuing their post-secondary academics at US and Canadian colleges and universities thanks to athletic and academic scholarships and other financial assistance. In addition, fourteen Twins have been drafted into professional baseball. The team’s most famous draftee is Gibson’s Ryan Dempster, and the most recent is Lachlan Fontaine, drafted by the Seattle Mariners in 2013.
